"Britney Spears, TBD
Album Nineney: It gets personal-er? Err, perhaps not. While 2013’s Britney Jean proved to be an erratic, rushed effort — jumping from fierce labor anthem “Work Bitch” to Christian faith odes (“Hold Tight”) to GRL discards with uncomfortable raps (“Tik Tik Boom (feat. T.I.)”) — the forthcoming follow-up (code name #B9), which she’s been working on at her own slow-and-steady pace for months, promises to be much truer to B-Girl’s usual standard of forward-thinking pop. With a little help from UK producer Burns, as well as “2 On” superstar producer DJ Mustard, Matthew Koma and “Good For You” songwriters du jour Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter, the album is already shaping up to be a return to form for the Living Legend. “It’s cool. It’s a little left-of-center,” Koma told us last year of his studio time with Brit, including a song inspired by Squeeze. Cool? Artsy fartsy? Sounds about right. — Bradley Stern"
